After I was introduced to the concept of “repetition compulsion,” I started to notice some very odd things.

In short, the “repetition compulsion” is a certain inclination to acquaint ourselves as human beings with the ones that resemble our family and certain connections that we develop from a young age.

At first, I found this concept to be fascinating. Looking at the people I’m friends with now, I can easily spot the quirky loud person, the shy and clever person, the passionate person, the artsy person, the confused person, the person removed from reality, etc. etc. etc.

But then I remembered something that I learned in a Sociology class that I took…that we look at our world from the lens that we construct through certain concepts, and that we inherently seek to find the things that we expect to find in others.

So where does that leave us?
